10 Years!

I have been a Certified Fitness Trainer for 10 years.  In this time, I have seen many people succeed in achieving their goals and fitness journey.  Unfortunately, I have seen those who have walked away from their fitness goals as well.

As bariatric (weight loss) surgery has become popular and more affordable, there are those who have chosen to go this route as part of their journey.  The number one reason people choose surgery is because they don't believe they have the willpower and dedication to do it on their own; when in reality, it requires a greater amount of willpower and dedication.  It is a complete lifestyle change.  Not only does it affect daily diet, it causes the body to make drastic changes.  Hair loss, malabsorption, loose and saggy skin, loss of proteins, reduced portions, dry skin, protruding teeth and many other side effects occur with weight loss surgery.

When I began training, I would take it very personal if a client didn't achieve their goals.  It took me some time to realize that I can't do the work for you.  I provide the knowledge and the tools, but the individual must put in the work.

As in everything we do, we must do it for ourselves!  Life expectancy is greatly increased with a healthy lifestyle.

It is my pleasure to help those in need.  It is even more pleasurable when I watch my clients succeed.

Everyone has the opportunity to feel better and look better.  But, it is up to the individual to make it happen.

To all of those who have trusted me in helping with their fitness goals, I thank you all!

It has been an amazing journey, and I don't plan on quitting anytime soon!

Be safe, be healthy, be fit, and have FUN!

Merry Christmas!

I can't believe Christmas is upon us once again! Where has the time gone?  Once again, I have waited until almost the last minute to prepare.  I did finish on time, but what a whirlwind ride it was! Thanks to my clients and family I have more than enough sweets to last a lifetime (I'm not complaining of course).  As one of my clients said:  "If I can't be skinny all of my friends will be fat!"  I am sure she was joking (or she should better be).  There is nothing wrong with enjoying the treats of the Christmas season, but remember to do so in moderation.  If not, the beginning of your new year may be a little sluggish!
Merry Christmas to you all!  Enjoy creating memories with your family and friends!

Health & Fitness Worldwide

Over the last couple of weeks, I have visited Barbados, West Indies and Guyana, South America.  These two countries rely greatly on tourism.  It is difficult to find organized athletics or health and fitness centers for tourists, let alone locals.  Most athletics are formed by National teams and not recreational leagues.  Barbados has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and yet the most recreation you see there is paddle ball or those who choose to step it up and run in the sand.  What happened to beach volleyball?  I have been asking this question during my stay and I have yet to receive an answer.  I am told "cricket".  That's what we play here.  However, I can't even find a recreational cricket facility.

I did venture out and find a gym.  It wasn't bad.  The manager allowed me a complimentary pass.  It was basic as far as weights were concerned, but had a large variety of cardio equipment.

Guyana, was very similar.  Nothing for the amateur in the way of sports or recreation.  I was told of a gym that existed in the neighborhood I was staying, but I never found it.  There seemed to be lots of cyclist in the area, riding on the highways and in the park, but I was told there was not professional cycling, simply those who chose to do it.  I did find much comfort in the Sea Wall.  Lots of recreational exercise there.  People walking, running, riding their bicycles, even those of us who chose to do cardio in the night air.

All in all; I learned that fitness is becoming of interest in these two countries, but is slow growing.  These two countries thrive on fish and chicken with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.  I can imagine what will happen once the fitness industry takes off.

Maybe, just maybe on my next visit; they will have volleyball.  Something I greatly look forward to!

Summer Heat!

Summer is here and the temperatures are incredibly high.  We have had multiple days where the temperature has been in the triple digits.  Are you prepared for a  hot dry summer?  The best way for you to beat the heat is to stay hydrated!  I can't stress enough the importance of hydration.  Take time to cool down after an intense workout.  Meaning don't throw yourself into a cold shower or start guzzling down iced drinks or refrigerated drinks.  Your internal body temperature is elevated and you can throw your internal organs into shock including but not limited to heart palpitations.  Enjoy room temperature drinks and cool down prior to jumping into a cold shower.  Use sunscreen and enjoy your time outdoors.  Summer is a great way to get off the couch and enjoy some good physical activity.  Have a great summer!

Moving Forward

It is truly amazing to see that through adversity, and negativity, positivity flows!  We all have times in our lives that negative forces try to take over.  It is so important to understand and believe that we can channel that negativity in very positive directions.  No one should be able to tell  you that you can not succeed.  No one should tell you that you can not have an impact on your own life and the lives of others.  You are the author of your book.  If you come upon a chapter that is not worthy of being in that book.  Remove it, and move forward!  We may not always like the things that are going on around us, but we can choose to not let it be a part of us.  Faith - such a wonderful and motivating force.  We may not see it, and we certainly can't touch it; but having it, makes us much, much stronger!  Keep Moving Forward, and always keep the Faith.  You will feel the positive energy take over!
